The Government of India will start allocation of 3G spectrum to telecom companies that bid the highest in the May 2010 3G auction.
Earlier the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had set the deadline to September 1 for allocation of 3G spectrum.The defence forces had already released two slots of 3G spectrum before the auction.
Leading Mobile Service operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar, Reliance Communications (RCOM), Aircel, Tata Teleservices, Idea Cellular, and Stel had bagged the 3G spectrum. All the 3G spectrum winners are confident that if the spectrum is handed over to them by September, they can roll out services by the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011.
The GSM biggies Vodafone Essar, Bharti Airtel and dual technology operator Reliance Communications (Rcom) bagged the lucrative Delhi and Mumbai circles and hope to get good 3G subscriber base initially with the commercial launch in both circles.
Largest GSM service operator Bharti Airtel, which had pan-India 3G ambitions, had to settle for just for 13 telecom circles along with Reliance Communications and Aircel.While the Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) have given up Delhi, Mumbai and taken 3 category A and 6 category B circles.

3G Prices are High Because 3G is New coming to India
Vishal October 3, 2010 at 3:37 pm
What will be the prices of 3G….!!?
Sanjay Bafna September 4, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Now Govt of India alloted the 3G spectrum to all pvt operators and operators like Vodafone, Rcom, TTSL, Airtel says they will rolls out 3G service with in 2 or 3 months/few months.
Anked Paralkar September 4, 2010 at 3:19 pm
what a time consuming process to implement 3G Indian govt has chosen?
None of the operators could get PAN India license for 3G.
Has the govt alloted adequate 3G spectrum to winners….I doubt.
Hope the 3G is not messed up

Kaushik Roy September 2, 2010 at 2:51 pm
Now we have to compare network by writing
BSNL 3G vs Vodafone 3G or BSNL 2G vs Airtel 2G
not any more BSNL vs Airtel/Vodafone
Raghu September 2, 2010 at 2:43 pm
@Amit.g
i fully agree with you
dskushwaha September 2, 2010 at 2:16 pm
No other operator except BSNL is providing nation vide coverage of 3G.
So broadband on the move with other operator is not possible. Better they sell/purchase their 3G of each other to form a nation vide coverage of 3G.
Without this they will loose the battle.
Amit.g September 2, 2010 at 2:14 pm
@Raghu
Ya man docomo is slowly capturing market of Airtel,Noiw almost all youngsters( working class and students) prefer Docomo.
Arjun.C September 2, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Yes 99% True Airtel 2G Network is Getting bad. But i Hate Vodafone for unauthorized charges and Balance Deduction.Better i had Selected DOCOMO
Raghu September 2, 2010 at 12:57 pm
@AMIT.g
yes u are right airtel 2g is not that good. but i find in some places Tata docomo GPRS is good when compared to Airtel in some places.
Raghu September 2, 2010 at 12:44 pm
@Amit.g
yes i dont know why Airtel is not that good in 2g . i also find Tata DOCOMO GPRS is good when compared to Airtel in some places.
Amit.G September 2, 2010 at 12:31 pm
@Avishek Ghosh
Yup now a days Airtel 2G is not tat good in karnataka also. dont know why Airtel became like this, & vodafone has got excellent network here
Avishek Ghosh September 2, 2010 at 12:05 pm
I am totally agree with u…two worthless & third class operators,i.e. Aircel & Reliance GSM got the valuable 3G spectrum in RoB circle which becomes a nightmare for the 3G users….The last hope remains on Airtel & Vodafone…but nowdays Airtel’s 2g service is not good in RoB…& Vodafone is always costlier among others…so BSNL may be ahead of others in terms of 3G in RoB….I am using BSNL 3G from last 1 month…the service is good…but the indoor coverage is bad…hope they soon rectify it….best of luck to BSNL 3G….
Kaushik Maitra September 2, 2010 at 11:25 am
I’m using BSNL 3G for the past 4 months and believe me, the service is excellent. The only good operator that got 3G license in both Kolkata and WB circles is Vodafone and unfortunately Airtel only license in WB circle. The two worthless operators, namely Aircel and Reliance, who are incapable of providing quality 2G services to their customers, got 3G licenses in both Kolkata and WB circles. The number of 3G customers will remain low in both the circles.
Keshav Jha September 2, 2010 at 10:54 am
Good news. Waiting for competition in 3G.
Hiren September 2, 2010 at 6:39 am
@tejas
Dear Tejas Mobile number portability has not been still launched so wait till 31 October than change your number you can do one thing if reliance executive said to you that you can mail nodal officer and ask him to do such thing and worn him that else you will switch to other operator for prepaid if they are unable to switch your current number to prepaid because I don’t think not a single company want to loose their valuable customer
abhishek September 1, 2010 at 10:43 pm
kab use kar payenge????????????????????????????
Ramit September 1, 2010 at 9:43 pm
@TD
Well.. it will be a bit costly because no. of users will be obviously much less than 2G users.Eventually it will come down and it will certainly depend upon how people respond to this new technology.
Here are some data plans of BSNL 3G some of which are quite comparable to existing wired broadband plans:

TD September 1, 2010 at 9:09 pm
3g data plans will be too costly, it will takes time to come down like 2g… but we can surely expect good 2g data plans now…..

@sanjay bafna.
hello sanjayji..
had a query…i have a reliance postpaid cdma connection for last 1.5 years with an avg bill of more than 500 rs. pm. i recently went to their office n applied for conversion into prepaid. after 2 days they called me n said i cant migrate to prepaid as i am a hi end user n the company has decided i should stay with the current postpaid plan. when i insisted for conversion they told then i must cancel my number n then buy a new prepaid. he literally told me that i have no other options. now as per my knowledge i m free to convert at any time. so what shud i do for conversion in the same number?
Rohan Singh September 1, 2010 at 5:44 pm
Reliance with its worst network will provide 3G with the speed of 2G. Lets see what Docomo can do.. Hope to see free 2G data services & unlimited data plans from every operator for its 2G customers.
Abhijit September 1, 2010 at 5:43 pm
Can you provide me an nodal officer email- id of Maharashtra circle so I can give an written complain to them. I contacted BSNL customer care as well as BSNL CSC but they don’t give proper answer they just tell that 3G mode fast internet can be access only in BSNL 3G network area we don’t know about MTNL and straight forward give answer that you cannot use it in MTNL area as there is no BSNL there.. So they only don’t know what they are telling..
Sanjay Bafna September 1, 2010 at 5:25 pm
MTNL and BSNL has 3G roaming tie-up so users can roam every where and access 3G services. Might be problem with your particular BSNL number, to resolve contact BSNL CSC or make written complain to nodal officer of your circle.
mikky September 1, 2010 at 5:16 pm
2G services for massess 3G only for class .3G won’t ever be affordable for us.
Abhijit September 1, 2010 at 5:00 pm
@ Sanjay Bafna. I m having BSNL 3G Maharashtra circle number but cannot use UMTS 3G mode fast internet while roaming in Mumbai MTNL 3G network, gives error as packet data connection not available but works in GSM 2G mode network while in Mumbai MTNL network which is very slow to access..
So whether roaming tie -up is not done by BSNL Maharashtra with MTNL Mumbai for 3G mode Fast internet while roaming in Mumbai MTNL 3G network??
Nilesh Patel September 1, 2010 at 4:24 pm
they shud start by Septemver end , else what is the fun and BSNL will take away many customers if MNP comes into play
zeeshan September 1, 2010 at 4:10 pm
Only in roaming. Because I think no one is going to share their network with other operator enabling it to provide 3G services in the circle where the later has no licence. @Raghu
Candid Writer September 1, 2010 at 4:07 pm
I am awaiting MNP. 3G can wait, in my humble opinion. The network operators are already warning about us about the high costs of the service! But we require MNP. And I really hope that it gets implemented after October 2010.
ashR September 1, 2010 at 4:04 pm
reliance and Airtel will start their services at the end of september…….others at the end of the year…….
Raghu September 1, 2010 at 4:01 pm
@Abhijit
yes reliance and airtel have to share their network in 3G
Abhijit September 1, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Now we have to wait and watch that how will be the roaming tie-ups between operators as none of the private operator has got pan India licenses therefore we would be force to pay more in roaming 3G network ..
Reliance & Airtel not sharing their 2G network with any other operators but in 3G they both will have to share now with other operators…
zeeshan September 1, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Offcourse and with BSNL any one can avail seamless roaming facility on 3G at affordable rates because it will provide on its own network. while in case of other private operator roaming facility will be too costly if you roam in a circle where your operator did not win the bid. @Madhumita Sen
Raghu September 1, 2010 at 3:31 pm
@Amit Karmakar
i think Airtel /reliance will start first
Amit Karmakar September 1, 2010 at 3:24 pm
I too happy to see this. Who will be the first to start thats we all wanted to see eagerly?
rajiev September 1, 2010 at 2:29 pm
happy to see this!
Raghu September 1, 2010 at 2:11 pm
yes 3g will get started by end of this year or by Early next year for sure
velu September 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm
100% correct arjun
Madhumita Sen September 1, 2010 at 1:52 pm
@ARJUN.C
Bsnl and mtnl are already offering 3G services. Still why we behave like as if 3G service does not exist ? Any guess ?
ARJUN.C September 1, 2010 at 1:18 pm
I THINK 3G GETS STARTED SOON IN INDIA BY PRIVATE OPERATORS
tejas September 1, 2010 at 1:13 pm
so finally 3g is here….i guess now data services will be a lot fun than what they r today…also voice calls will improve n problems of network congestion will be reduced as traffic will be divided between 2g n 3g. n initially as 3g handsets r less i guess the ones on the 3g network will have greater advantage of quality n connectivity. one things for sure 3g means speeeeed…. fun time for telecom n tehcnology fans coming soon…:)
hardeep September 1, 2010 at 12:43 pm
they had been using it for their own internal communications….. simple@Anbu John Boban
Madhumita Sen September 1, 2010 at 12:38 pm
@Anbu John Boban
Defence has been allocated some spectrum slots. They have to vacate a part of that.
Anbu John Boban September 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm
What is the role of 3g with defence for allocating the slot……i cant get that……..
