3G Does Not Mean Expensive Handsets, Says Samsung [VIDEO]

In a bid to create awareness and promote next generation 3G Mobile Handset in Indian market, Samsung,  kick off its new television commercial aims to kill the perception that 3G means high spend on handsets. This new commercial has been created by ‘Cheil Worldwide SW Asia’ which brings to life the low-cost, high value Samsung Hero (3213) 3G enabled mobile phone.

The idea is simple; kill the perception that 3G handsets are expensive. This stems from the premise brought about by aggressive marketing and advertising by service operators and people wanting to upgrade their networks to 3G being hesitant, as they believe to enjoy this latest technology they will have to purchase an expensive handset.

The Samsung Hero 3G, is a 3G enabled phone loaded with exclusive features such as Video Calling and Mobile TV and also comes with a large display, Camera, USB connectivity, access to Social Networking sites – features that are appreciable within the given price bracket of Rs. 4000. What sets it apart from its competitors is the fact that it supports HSDPA 3.6 Mbps data transfer speed, which is up to 10 times faster than ordinary 3G WCDMA 384 kbps phones.

Talking to today’s youth, who are impatient and want things to happen now and are constantly seeking new experiences in their everyday lives the commercial revolves around a group of adventure-loving friends who set out on an air balloon for skydiving.

This group is seen enjoying every aspect of the phone such as its fast processor, camera, music download, video download, mobile TV and video telephony, whilst they are in the sky. Furthermore, to bring out the aspect of thrilling speed and to draw attention to the fact that with Samsung Hero 3G, everything happens in ‘real-time’ support was also drawn from the video-calling feature.

    just bought this phone 3days ago for a net review..
    it costs Rs.3400 {which is a plus factor}
    screen size is 2.0inch as claimed by company though screen seems to be of 1.9inch.
    in 2g mode via opera mini i surfed net for 6 hours continuous{MAX Speed 29KBPS via Reliance GSm} .
    and in 3g mode battery lasts for abt 3 hours of data usage{MAX Speed 352KBPS via reliance 3g on my laptop}.
    camera is ok .
    it can be used as DATA MODEM for PC.
    Sound is good ,, Headphones are superb.
    a nice phone at this price tag.
    You get a phone + 3g modem @ RS.3400

  • V May 8, 2011 6:39 pm

    I am not sure does it support modem feature. can any body help me regarding this.

    Screen Resolution very bad, Camera VGA-very bad, not a good 3G phone over all considering above all.

    4 of my friends are using sony Ericson phones and all 3 have same problems. First the speaker(ear piece) doesn work well as the voice gets teard and second joy stick wont last for more than 5months. i agree that sony phones are very durable as they are using it for more than 3 years but these problems occurd within the warrenty period and till now they are facing the same prob. Sony phones have small problems.

    agreed,smae prob facing

    Ya even i have seen many people complaining about faulty Ear piece of SE. SE has minor problems & among all ear piece is the common one.

    Looks like u are not aware of elasticity of demand. Jo sasta hai wo bikkta hai. This is why Micromax , Nokia are sold more. Nokia can never match the quality of SE, HTC, BLACKBERRY, iPhone. NOKIA black and white phones are durable. But very few phones are of good quality. Where as SE is concerned it uses quality of Sony. Like sonys walkman for music, Sonys cybershot for camera, Sonys bravia for picture quality. These are the master peice of sony that comes with only SE and nokia can never match to its quality. Remember SE ARC is the worlds no 1 feature rich phone out of 20 phones as per recent survey not Nokia N8. Though Arc has 8mp cam where N8 has 12mp.

    respect!

    How can you say that nokia phones are of low quality now? Im using nokia E52 and 2600 classic. My E52 once fell very badly in bus when the driver applied sudden brakes and i holdin the phone dropped from 5 feet height it and it went brushing against the floor and hit against the wall. But still it was workin well and even the call was not disconnected. Now what will you say for this?

    @Kiran
    Mine Samsung c160 fall from a moving local train. I got it after 5hr of searching and its still working fine and never been to service centre.
    My SE W200i was left near window in rainy season. And i noticed it in the morning. Till then it was full of water. I had low charge though i charged it continued using it and never been to service centre.
    My SE Naite now it 1.3yr old once charged it lasts for 3days. And it hardly takes less than 30min to get fully charged.
    Then my xperia x10 8months old it lasts for 1.5days after disabling data in 2G mode. As usual it takes less than 30min to get fully charged.
    Nokia 3120 fall from my hand while talking. Then i can not hear anything. It was 3 month old took to service centre. They said speaker was damaged and replaced it. After then when ever I use to click Go to my phone restarts. Then it use to visit s.centre once in a 2month. I sold it.
    My Nokia 7210 after 4 months of purchase battery lasted for 70min only. And my screen use to turn white. Took to service centre they formatted and gave me back. They said this is due to virus. Though S40 series are not virus prone. We know battery comes with 6months waranty. The phone again use to do same thing. Again I took it too s.centre this time it was after 6month. They said it was pblm with the battery. I had to purchase new battery at 1175. Though the pblm continued the screen turns total white. And when its back to normal I saw their was gap b/wn msgs and can not be deleted. Again I visit s.c. This time 12 months was over. They said sir screen ka taar kat gaya hai isliye ye pblm hai. 1400 Rs lagenge aur phir thik hojayga. I purchased that phone at 5080. I fought with them they could have told me earlier but they want to earn. Now that phone is in locker.

    Search on the net to see most durables phones. wize.com/cellular-phones/t50592-durability Most of the durable phones are from moto. So guys who think only Nokia makes durable phones are really fools. Every comp have range of durable phones. I will try to post the link again.

  • vinay May 6, 2011 8:12 am

    nowadays samsung has iomproved themselves than thokia phones whioch is not coming with any dual sim phones? samsung has got good range of dual siom phones, n now 3g models.

    he he he he ha ha ha ha,hats off 2 u bro.,u mean in 2011 we cant xpct 2005 year’s quality n for ur kind information cost of mobile has gone down due to – intense competition,cheap/innovative cost of production,mass or huge scale of production,manufacturing facility within india etc… :P :P

  • rajiev May 5, 2011 6:15 pm

    lava is better than micromax!

  • Amit.G May 5, 2011 6:08 pm

    @rohan
    I can see ur knowledge level, comparing nokia with mircomax and lava?? SE has completely lost its market grip in india, now only nokia and samsung are leading the market and our china rebranded micromax is in 3rd position.
    nokia never comprises on quality. few low end phones (1202 1208) which are manufactured in chennai plant were defective interms of reception but now nokia is working on it n new phones are quite better.

  • Abadan Mohapatra May 5, 2011 4:35 pm

    More features + low cost= poor durability. Like Nokia, Micromax, lg, lava..etc.
    High cosT+ more features= good durability. Like iPhone, HTC, SE, Blackberry, Moto.
    So if u go for high cost phones u will get quality and durability. Same feature phone with different price tag shows quality this is why we dont have an iphone at 10,000 and an N8 at 50,000.

    What ??? Nokia is a company having phones of low durability ???

    Sorry but all know Nokia Corp. is master of durability.

    I have sony er w550i and w800i and its perfectly allrigt from last 5yrs. Nokia is not the only comp to provide durability. U guys are just nokia fans this is why u people will go for windows phone not android.. I agree Nokia was known for durability but now its not. All new phones are not durable. Accept it. And once ur phone visits service centre then every 6 month it needs to visit. Durablity and quality ? Bullshit.. Mano ya na mano..

  • mks May 5, 2011 10:39 am

    @rahul
    How could we get same quality in present time ,in 2005 we get only a colour phone in about 5000 rs and now in we buy a 3g enabled multimedia phone .so don’t expect same quality and durabilityFrom nokia .

  • rahul May 5, 2011 8:09 am

    earlier nokia was synonym for mobiles bt 2day its not the same scenario…moreovr u hav purchased ur phone wn nokia didnt had it manufacturing facility in india…since it had started manufacturing in india its quality/durability has detoriated drastically

  • rajiev May 5, 2011 7:04 am

    @Kiran i m not against dear,in my family there are two nokia fone,1 samsung, 1spice and 2 sonyericsson.i am not a fanboy.

    @mks yeah it’s true that day nokia make durable fone i think other company too. siemens , motorolla , nokia(bricks that can be throw to catch d thief.). that time i have nokia 3310 it’s great fone.

  • mks May 4, 2011 10:40 pm

    @Kiran
    Ya its true we buy nokia because nokia is the only company whose handset worth the money I still using my nokia 2600 which I brought in 2005,without any problem I just replace the battery this year and mobile work like new and other company like LG ,samsung sony thier battery goes down after 6 or 9 months .people still remember nokia model like 3610 2600 1100 6600 6630 7610 for their durability .

  • Kiran May 4, 2011 8:04 pm

    @rajiev
    why you guys are so much against nokia? I agree that currently nokia is in its tough times but once it starts selling windows phones it will again dominate the market. Nokia is known for its durability and user friendly. How many people are tier using samsung mobile for more than 3years? But you will find plenty of people using nokia for more than 3 to 4 years. That is nokia dude. Though symbain is outdated now but it do supports lot of office solutions. Only people who dont know how to use phones have software problems.

  • Amit.G May 4, 2011 7:41 pm

    I think u dont know the complete news, no life or property was harmed, 46million batteries manufactured by panasonic of japan in 2005-06 were defective. problems of battery getting over heated while charging, swelling made nokia to take precautions n replaced those batteries.

  • rajiev May 4, 2011 6:42 pm

    who know who are on hot seat, i know nokia replace batteries for free of cost, but what about those people who face this damage, plz

  • Amit.G May 4, 2011 6:34 pm

    @rajiev
    Common buddy how many blasted?? it was few BL5C made in japan in a particular batch. but nokia replaced all the batteries for free of cost, via internet, nokia care. so by looking at that u can see how much nokia cares for its business.

  • rajiev May 4, 2011 6:00 pm

    but nokia battery can blast.@Kiran

  • dheeraj May 4, 2011 5:25 pm

    I will still prefer 3G unlocked usb data cards, some sellers in ebay are selling huawei umg 1831 @2600rs, you can get 3.6 mbps data card @1300 rs or i will go with NOKIA brand.

    I think nokia c5 is the phone to go becoz it has got a good battery ( 1050 MAH)with video call, hsdpa upto 10.2 mbps.
    If you want to go for more battery backup you have to go for NOKIA e72 which is damn costly @ 16000 with 1500 MAH battery and @ 10.2 mbps with video call. It has got USB charging so battery will not drain quickly when u use phone as modem.

    For cheap and best3G phones you have to go for SONY ERICSSON GREEN HEART PHONES ( naite and cedar)

  • Kiran May 4, 2011 3:31 pm

    Samsung phone battery has short life compared to nokia. One cannot use samsung battery for more than 1year. But nokia batteries last for more than 2years. Nokia phones are solid in terms of durability. Wher as samsung phone suffers if dropped.

  • PD May 4, 2011 1:44 pm

    The consumables of SAMSUNG sets are costly always as vouched by me friend a cell-phone repairer (battery, spares etc.). Also the dealers get more margins by selling Samsung products and therefore the dealer make you believe. Years back I too had bitter experience an MP3 usb player and since then for me, in particular – samsung is SWAN SONG since then..!

  • aditya May 4, 2011 12:59 pm

    only 2 inch display better buy spice g6550 with more large display dual sim 3g at rs3600 and 3.1mbps

  • Amit.G May 4, 2011 12:29 pm

    @Santu Sovan Mandal
    But u will end up replacing battery every 4months. charging ur phone vis usb reduces battery’s life as this charging which is called tickle charging, and upon tat using internet will drain battery fast, so continues charging n discharging will kill battery. better use USB modem

  • rajiev May 4, 2011 11:22 am

    Santu Sovan Mandal :
    Yes this phone can be used as modem. So, instead of buying data card, one may opt for this phone at almost same price with additional features like video calling.

  • Saurabh May 3, 2011 10:57 pm

    I would rather buy a USB modem then this phone. Another crap from crappy Samsung. What’s the benefit of having a java phone with HSDPA and small screen with 128*160 pixels CSTN display? The only good this phone has its price point. Micromax will soon come up with a Android based phone having 7.2Mbps HSDPA under 5K.
